A KwaZulu-Natal entrepreneur shares how she went from sleeping in her office to owning a funeral business that has now expanded to the UK and Zimbabwe

Durban-based businesswoman Nomfundo Mcoyi (41) of the Icebolethu Funeral Group says she used to sleep at the office with her children because they didn’t have a house. 

She had an apartment that she used as an office during the day and a home after hours.

As managing director, Nomfundo is responsible for day-to-day running of the 30 branches of Icebolethu Funerals. She is also responsible for developing new products such as the burial scheme designed for specific groups i.e. schools, tertiary institutions and corporates. She is also passionate about developing systems that work for the industry.Nomfundo joyfully juggles being a devoted mother of three with being an employer to a workforce of over one hundred employees. She is a visionary and is an award-winning Finalist in the South African National Premier Business Awards in 2013 in the Women Business Owned Category.She has travelled the globe in pursuit of knowledge on industry related information sharing sessions such as Asia Funeral Directors Expo in Hong Kong in 2012, 2013 and recently in 2014. She also attended TANEXPO Funeral Expo in Bologna France in May 2014.
